Description

Purpose:

To provide financial support to students from historically marginalized populations in their pursuit of post-secondary education in a health-related profession, with a goal of having a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects Nova Scotian communities.

Administered by:

The QEII Foundation, with support from a bursary selection committee of volunteers from the community and Community Health Boards in Nova Scotia Health’s Central Zone.

Awards:

$2,000 bursaries

Criteria:

To be considered, bursary applicants are: 

  • A Canadian Citizen or permanent resident
  • A resident of Nova Scotia (with a permanent mailing address in Nova Scotia)
  • Identify as:
    • African Nova Scotian/Black 
    • Indigenous
    • Racialized 
    • Immigrant 
    • 2SLGBTQIA+ 
    • Experiencing physical, cognitive or learning limitations that impact activities of daily living
    • Or having intersectionality of these identities 
  • Accepted and enrolled in full or part-time studies for the 2024-2025 academic year (starting or continuing through September 30, 2024): 
    • with a declared major in a health-related field at a Canadian post-secondary institution that is recognized by Universities Canada 
    • in a health-related program at Nova Scotia Community College
    • or at a recognized healthcare technology institution  

Process:

The applications of candidates who meet the above considerations will be forwarded to the selection committee. Applications are evaluated on several factors including:

  • Educational/career goals and field of study 
  • Financial need 
  • Community involvement 
  • Reference letter

To apply:

  • To be considered, please complete the bursary application form and reference letter no later than 11:59 p.m. on March 18, 2024. 
  • Submission of an application signifies an applicant’s agreement to comply with all stated conditions of the award program. 

Results will be shared with applicants via email by June 30, 2024. To ensure you receive communications about your bursary application, please add [email protected] to your email’s safe sender list. 

Students selected for a bursary will be invited to attend a celebration in fall 2024 to receive their bursary.
